Pandemic Coming?
There is news all over the world of swine flu. I first heard about it when Philippa Ballantine made mention of it on her twitter. At first I thought that it was something that happened over there with the pigs and pork. I didn’t think that epicentre was in Mexico and that it was a group of students that traveled to Mexico for a trip that had probably brought it back with them.
There has been one confirmed case of Swine Flu in Texas; a 23 month old child. My condolences go out the family of the toddler. But there is a case in my own state now. This has me worried.
There’s no vaccine, or cure for the Swine Flu. There are medicines that seem to combat the flu like symptoms, but this doesn’t really seem to be enough. At least not for me. It worries me that this disease could have a chance of becoming a pandemic before anyone can come up with a vaccine for it.
I’ve had the flu before, it’s not fun. I also know that the flu can cause death. The Swine flu, or as the news has began to change the name, H1N1 virus, is essentially another form of flu. All the symptoms of the common flu show up.
I’m not worrried so much that I’m running to the store to stock up on OTC flu medications, or face masks. However, I am taking my own precautions with making sure hands are washed a lot throughout of the day, my hand santizer is replenshed and everything that has a touchable surface has been sprayed with disinfectant. I don’t want to get sick, nor do I want to see my son or anyone in my household sick.
I can only hope that with some more research, I can understand this strange flu that has shown up and pray that it’s sorted out soon. When there is a vaccine finally made, I will make sure that everyone in my household gets the injection.
There has been pandemics before, these things killed hundreds of thousands. I hope that it doesn’t come to that. To everyone that is sick with the H1N1 virus; Get Well Soon.
