Taking a mental health day: The case for staying home from work for your mind
Reblogged from National Post | Life:
Why is it considered acceptable to take a sick day to heal your body, but not a mental health day to recharge your mind? Let’s challenge traditional thinking in 2013 to make mental health days as acceptable as sick days.
Have you ever called in “sick” at work when you weren’t really physically ill? You simply needed an extra day off to recharge.
I think most of us wish we could just take a day. I know I do from time to time.

Yes, I’ve done this, and I think it’s a reasonable thing to do. I took a much needed mental health day a couple of years ago from a job that was burning me out. I was working 11 hour days at the office and then working another hour or two each night when I got home with no appreciation from the higher ups for doing so. I was just too damn exhausted one Thursday to come in. And while this day didn’t significantly change my workload, it did help. It felt good to just breathe.
Thanks for posting this! I think it’s an important workplace concern.
