The senior staff of the Nighthawk has been chosen. Graduation is only two days away. Senia has surrounded herself with trusted peers and each has put together a good team of engineers, scientists, doctors, and pilots. She’s even found that there are some colourful characters, what with the two Felanus barbers in Simon and Hector Longfur, and the veteran galley cook with Angus Longear.
But most importantly, the crew has learned just what the plot was that affected the academy. Fillias Stigian reveals there is indeed a nefarious plot at work.

When last we left our story, the cadets of Chattingham academy along with Colonel Tyrell and Captain Mallard were trying to track down Colonel Stigian. Stigian, it had been revealed was attempting to set a bomb at the faculty building, when discovered, he fainted and was taken to the academy medical facility. Meanwhile, Senia Felix has been informed by General Gerring she has been chosen to captain a new breed of starship in order to root out this conspiracy that could affect all of Vulpinia Prime. Why exactly did Stigian faint, and is he in dire medical need? And who will Senia recruit to join her as part of the crew of the latest ship in the fleet; the Nighthawk?

A good reminder about writing
This quote isn’t necessarily about writing, but it does relate. It’s from Henry Rollins, who many may recognize as the front man for the punk band Black Flag.
How do you show that you like your fans? You don’t ding’em for money every possible chance you get. You make CD’s long and add a lot of cool bonus cuts. You don’t charge $50 for a t-shirt. When kids download your stuff for free off of the… internet and tell you about it, you don’t get mad at them. My parting line is ” I’D RATHER BE HEARD THAN PAID.” Am I going to come after you like Lars Ulrich, demanding my 35 cents, nah man. If you can’t afford to listen to my music and you gotta get it off the internet, at least you’re rockin’. ~Henry Rollins
This is a philosophy I’m using with my writing. Yeah, I’ll get my stuff published and people will buy it, but I also have it available in different electronic formats so if people download it and read it, then I guess I’ve done my job.
The only payment I want is that people mention they’ve read it, that’s all. Download it or buy, I don’t care. Just read it and enjoy it.

Rocket Fox: Chapter Nine
It is later in the evening, so here it is!
Rocket Fox, Chapter Nine, and things start to get interesting as more is revealed about some of the secondary characters, a hero comes into focus and we find out something sinister.
I’m working on chapter ten, which will include more about our main characters and some of their background, also a lesson in teamwork, Captain Mallard begins to get more help from outside the Academy, Stigian makes his own progress and some rough ball!

This is something I should have talked about a while ago, but I was quite immersed in getting more story and world building for Rocket Fox.
This is a book available for Amazon’s Kindle (and through Smashwords, as I have been informed, also Nook). It is by the very talented John Walker. I’ve read other prose from him and it’s very much in that film noir type of setting.
John and I first met (I use met loosely because we’ve never met face to face, only through the existence of 3D avatars) through City of Heroes. It was my first entry into the world of MMOs, having missed out on Everquest and WoW completely. The group we were involved in was (is, it’s still around really) a role play group. We made characters, played their parts, and wrote stories about them. That last part is probably the most important. It was also good interaction because people would often leave feedback about each other’s stories and give tips or offer corrections.
