The World of Black Mask & Pale Rider

01 Sep

Over the course of the weekend, I’ll be posting up tidbits of information about the world the elven gunslingers come from.

The world of Terra-Kal

In order to begin more expansive writings around Black Mask & Pale Rider, I’ve had to create an entire world.  From cities to regions to countries to races, even professions and religions.  This series will explain the world, and what people will see when reading about the Adventures of Black Mask & Pale Rider

Races of Terra-Kal

Terra-Kal is a diverse planet, filled with a large number of people.  The entire population is elven in heritage.  And there are a good number of elven races throughout this world, many of whom have their own religions which have carried over from their existence on Earth.

Nordician Elves

The Nordicians live in the snow covered regions of Terra-Kal, mostly in the nation of Nordicia.  They are a hardy group of people, having overcome any hardship, which includes fierce beasts, harsh weather, and warring clans from different nations.

Nordicians are quite simply the tallest of all the elven races, with an average height of anywhere between six feet and five inches tall to six feet and ten inches tall.  They are fair skinned and fair haired, with hair colour ranging from white to blond to red haired.  They are sturdy folk, who value honour and combat above all.  While they appreciate peace, they are always ready to lend a hand in a fight, and many times have come to the aid of those they consider close friends.  Many times, that does not include other Nordicians, as they have been known to help the elves of nearby Brytilonia.

During times of peace, many among the villages and town that dot the Nordician coastline will partake in games of strength and skill, often competing against nearby villages.

Normal life is just as one might think, as many Nordicians are farmers, or blacksmiths, with a good number of clerics that tend to the sick.  Each village and town is considered it’s own tribe, often lead by a chieftain who either settled the area and brought his or her family, or by a son or daughter of the original chieftain.  Nordicians believe that both men and women are equal, and can often be seen sharing any work load.  There is a saying among Nordicians: “You may fear our men, that only means you will fear our women more.”  Any outsider who disrespects or looks down upon a Nordician woman will often find his fate with the tribe sealed, and if not outright killed, will be forced to leave and told never to return.

Nordicians will trade with other elves, and many nations have learned that these elven giants are not nearly as dim witted as are sometimes believed to be outside of Nordicia.

Many Nordicians are faithful to the stories of the old Norse gods, and hold Midgard with great esteem.  It is said in battle, that the Nordicians will utilize drums in order to drive their enemies into a terror filled frenzy, with the hope that many will break ranks and run.
