With the world building and the writing of the back story for the Elves of the Old West, there has always been more poetry style stories I wanted to tell about some of the other character besides Shani and Pania. This is the story of Scales, the constant companion of Shani Wennemein. The small dragon that perches on her shoulder.
Cruzore the Small One
The Story of Acrone, The Story of Scales
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
There names were feared
A shudder of fear without fail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Grand majesty from a mighty roar
A creature to respect in every detail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
A mighty roar, a breath of flame
A dragon’s kiss from a simple exhale
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Mighty beasts, they could fill the sky
With expert sight, they’d be on your trail
But the dragons hold a more regal court
They stand as guardians for the world
Mighty champions, evil they thwart
As their mighty wings, they unfurled
Not all of scaled kind is of impressive size
There are those of more smaller nature
To capture one would be a prize
Even though it would be a danger
To befriend one is an honour
To have one as a companion, even more
An added ace to give one power
Instilling courage to the core
These smaller scaled dragons
Will aid those adept at arcane
Giving wisdom to aid their passion
Reminding them the work is not for fame
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Small they may be
But hide as tough as ring mail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Size can be deceiving
Their bite can still impale
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
They deserve respect
Friends they will not fail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
No different than grand dragons
Betray one, the wyrmling will assail
This story is of one in particular
A small, copper wyrm, of higher education
Who helped a mage with works extracurricular
A high wizard was his vocation
Together they had been for a very long time
The mage had grown old, even for his kind
The wyrmling, still young, just in his prime
Enjoyed his time with the old mage, he did not mind
His name was unknown
But he would have be given two with small details
From the mage, Acrone
And from a thief, he became known as Scales
For it is here we learn
The wyrmling’s mage was set upon
Attacked by brigands, his riches they yearned
With one fell stroke, the mage was gone
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Taken he was by a brigand’s hand
His best he tried against the bandits, assail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Put in a cage to become a pet
But cried out in a deafening wail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Perhaps it was this that saved his life
For down the road one soul heard his mournful wail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
A thief, a rogue, a stealthy young lass
She moved to follow the bandits’ trail
Her name was Shani, a lithe young elf
With a sense of adventure, and ready to fight
She was good with a dagger, was true to herself
On this day she set out to make right
She followed the bandits, and found the small wyrm
Quietly she freed him from the small cage
Her look toward his captors was very stern
As she set a trap, one that would satisfy her rage
One by one, the bandits fell in
Captured and bond, they wouldn’t move
They knew that they were done, exposed was their sin
Each knew this thief had nothing to prove
As the bandits captured, Shani set out
Scales sat on her shoulder, feeling content
He would stay with her, of that there was no doubt
Through thick and thin, where hell would be bent
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
The dragon and the elf
Together they set sail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Adventure called to them
They’d answer the hail
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Together they’d ride
The thief, Shani Wennemein and the wyrmling, Scales
Tooth and claw
Wings and scale
Throughout the world and through the gates
They’d meet all threats without fail
