Morning!

Wake up!

I’ve been up for an hour.  I woke at 4:30 this morning, got out of bed, made a pot of coffee, did normal morning things.  I see the sun rising during this last hour.

And part of me can’t help but think “you know you could have spent the last hour asleep”.  I could have, indeed, but I like the quiet of the early morning.  When I get up this early on a weekend, it’s a great feeling.  Lots of the day to do whatever I want.

A new bookshelf

I got a new bookshelf last night.  Well, new to me.  I bought it from the reporter at work who’s going to be leaving the paper.  It now holds all of my graphic novels.  I usually end up acquiring pieces of furniture in this way.  I got my coffee table, end tables and a TV stand (which is still devoid of a TV) in the same manner over ten years ago.

The acquiring of stuff

The bookshelf got me thinking last night that as you grow older, what you acquire and how excited you get changes.  I remember being very excited about a vacuum I bought in the mid 2000s.  Last Christmas I received a casserole dish, a new frying pan, and a microwave.  It was very exciting.

When I was younger, getting a new dual cassette AM FM player was the big thing.  I even remember getting my Commodore 64 in high school.

Breaking up is hard to do

Break ups stuck.  I haven’t had one in years, but I remember the feeling.  They’re horrid, they’re awful and they leave you with a deep sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach.

But, there comes a time that one has to start to realize that the only person who mattered in the relationship that ended, is you.  Build yourself up, focus on you.  It’ll still be difficult, considering the fact that the comforting aspect of someone around is now gone.

Don’t analyze things.  Don’t blame yourself.  Don’t see yourself as the problem.  The only one important in any break up is you.

Move update

tvgone

The old electronics are gone.

Gone are two old computers (one a Mac, the other a Windows XP machine that started giving me the blue screen of death), the old television, the VCR (which hung on since the late 80’s), an 18 disc CD changer (which lasted since the early 90’s), Altec Lansing speaker system, and a switch box that allowed me to switch from TV, VCR, DVD, and CD player with ease.  Estimated that I won’t be hauling close to 200 pounds of old electronics with me when I move to Humboldt.

Which is okay, because I’d rather not have to move all of that stuff.  The less I have to move, the better off I am.

115inchange

One nice thing with clearing out the old stuff is some of the neat stuff I find. Like change!

I had an old peanut butter jar full of change, but I also found a bunch in all sorts of nooks and crannies.  Once all rolled up, I counted $115 dollars worth of change (a lot of that was pennies, you can blame me for the extinction of the Canadian penny, and other penny horders like me).

cleanwindows

The windows and walls are perhaps the two most difficult things to clean so far (haven’t even started on the walls just yet). Actually, looking ahead, I’m thinking the floors might be just as hard, solely because I have to move the fridge and stove to clean underneath them, which will be no easy task for me.

There’s still the cupboards and the closets to clear out.  Today’s objective is phoning the Town of Outlook and finding out if there is a policy for recycling glass, because I had this habit of saving every pasta sauce jar that I used (after 9 years, that’s a lot).  Some of them are really cool and have measuring units on the sides like old Mason Jars.  There’s a few 12 ounce and 20 ounce jars, I plan on keeping three each because they make for great drinking glasses.

booksThis happens to me sometimes.  I pack up some things, get ready to move and then a couple of weeks after I’m settled… “Dangit!  I left my [insert item here] back in my old apartment!”  Now often I’d do this in the past when I’d go in to visit friends over summer holidays or Christmas.  I’d get a phone call that goes something like this:  “Tim, you forgot your curling broom and slider at our place.”  Or: “Tim, you left your hood thing from your jacket at our place.”  Or: “Tim, you left your book here at our place.”  Keep in mind, that’s not at multiple places, that’s all at my friend Pearce’s place.  I was fortunate that Pearce was able to keep a running tab of things I left behind.  Looking back, I could have left the curling broom and slider considering I haven’t curled since I lived in Melfort in 1991.

One thing that I’ve gotten rid of over the past few months has been my comics.  It didn’t come easy, but I came to realize they were basically sitting in storage and I’d rather they were actually read by someone.  I’ve been collecting trade versions of them anyway, so I may very well get my hands on those in the future.

Monday morning random times

random times

I had a post.  I really did.  It was fully thought out and well written and long and I was almost done and Google Chrome crashed.  Of course, I failed to do the one thing always thought of when on a computer; save my work.  Maybe if I remember what it was, I’ll rewrite it.  Maybe.

So, in lieu of that post, here’s some random stuff.

Something crappy

The crappy part really begs repeating.  Having Google Chrome crash while attempting to write a long post, nearly at the end, and you become so dejected you just don’t care about writing it again.

Also crappy:  the fact Microsoft’s internal spell checker still thinks Google is misspelled.

The Awesome and the not so

Something really awesome: Waking up at five in the morning and the sun is there to greet you as you get up.

Something not so awesome: You look at the temperature and see it’s only -9 Celsius outside.

You never realize how dusty your computer monitor is

Until you’re trying to read something and the light is hitting it in such a way where every dust mote is highlighted and then you suddenly get the urge to dust your entire house.

Gifs and memes

Seeing all of the gifs and memes based on different television shows like Game of Thrones, Community, Parks and Rec, Walking Dead, and others makes me realize that I may actually want to get cable television at some point.

But then I realize just how expensive it is and decide it’s just as easy to “watch” Game of Thrones by reading the books.
